The start of Empire Ice Cream surely has the greatest story ever.
Husband and wife Emma and Anthony Churchyard launched their own ice cream range a few months ago after Emma got retrenched in July this year.
Emma is an adept cook, who loves to entertain guests and always enjoyed making ice cream for guests.
When they celebrated their anniversary in August, Emma said she was starting an ice cream business.on Anthony replied that they were going to do it.
They started with a 1l ice cream machine that took around 45 minutes to turn the ice cream around.
Anthony is also a professional photographer, and while at a client’s house, he saw a dusty industrial ice cream machine standing there.
“I asked the guy if we could buy the machine from him and he said I could have it for free,” said Churchyard.
“Even though it was a scary project to take on, we produced 60l of ice cream in four days,” said Churchyard.
“This industrial machine produces 1,5l of ice cream every three minutes.”
Production levels were still modest as the couple was working from home.
“We only provide on order, but would love to supply restaurants, markets and events with our ice cream,” said Churchyard.
Empire Ice Cream is homemade, and artificial flavour and colouring free, with eco-friendly and biodegradable packaging.
Banting, lactose free, and other flavours are also available which ensures that every taste will be satisfied.
This ice cream is absolutely heavenly and mouth-watering, as it is infused with fresh ingredients such as mint, strawberry, coconut and more.
Current flavours include dark chocolate, salted caramel, coconut, fresh mint, choc-chip, peanut butter and vanilla.
