Pretorians and winners of this year’s prestigious Best of Pretoria Readers’ Choice Awards got together at a lavish award ceremony held at Silver Lakes Golf Estate yesterday to raise a toast to this year’s winners. This was the 6th Best of Pretoria Readers’ Choice Awards event where we got to recognise the best the city has to offer as decided by readers – the residents of Pretoria – annually.
The MC for the event was none other than Jacaranda’s Martin Bester who also won two awards for himself – best radio show and best radio personality.
There is no denying that Pretoria is a first-rate city. In addition to breathtakingly beautiful scenery, a community with heart and a rich and diverse mix of culture and heritage, the city boasts charming suburban eateries, trendy hang-outs and top-notch shopping destinations.
This year, the people of Pretoria once again were not shy to give top marks to their favourites in the different categories and, after counting and auditing tens of thousands of votes, a beautiful coffee table booklet was again compiled as a guide to reflect the beauty and charm which underpins the character of the city. Make sure to get your hands on a copy.
The 2018 Best of Pretoria Readers’ Choice Awards winners’ list boasts names like SPAR as best supermarket, Mythos as best Mediterranean/ Greek Restaurant, Fournos as best bakery, Maragon as best English High School and MHC – A world in one store as best furniture/ home decor store to name only a few. “This morning’s event emphasised the sense of belonging that our Best of Pretoria Readers’ Choice Awards competition together with Rekord Newspapers and Get It Pretoria magazine have created between brands, the business community, personalities and our readers. Not only was it a successful gathering, it also left us appreciating that we all strive to have means to keep our community together whilst saving them time in their busy lives,” said Chris Mcinga, Business Manager at Capital Media.
As with previous years our ten reader winners also got to win their share of prizes worth more than R200 000 at the function held at the picturesque Silver Lakes Golf Estate Clubhouse. These names were drawn at random from the scores of people who entered this year’s competition.
This year’s prizes included vouchers from Placecol Silver Lakes or The Grove worth R2 500, vouchers from Metro Centre Home, a two night’s stay for two people sharing including breakfast at Legend Golf & Safari Resort worth R 9 200, a R2 500 jewellery gift voucher from Dust Designs, a one night’s stay including breakfast and a R300 dinner voucher for two at Farm Inn, Sunday lunch and a game drive for two people at Farm Inn worth R590, a Deetlefs wine tasting session for one lucky winner and a maximum of 29 guests at a place of their choice worth R8 000, a pair of Rayban Clubmaster sunglasses valued at R2 550 from Lambinon Optometrists, to name only a few.
A big congratulations to all the reader winners and overall winners in this year’s Best of Pretoria Readers’ Choice Awards 2018. From the Best of Pretoria team, thank you to every single person that voted and to those who won, keep up the good work. Hard work really does pay off and the people of the capital are not afraid to say thank you.
There is simply no better place to live than in Pretoria. The city has so much to offer, and its versatility knows no bounds.Think purple streets in October, the crowd at Loftus Versveld when the Bulls score a try, and the happy sounds of vuvuzelas from hooting taxis draped in Mamelodi Sundowns flags.
The Best of Pretoria Readers’ Choice Awards celebrates all this and more, and gives you the chance to tell us what and who is the best the capital city has to offer.
